Next Level Invitational: 2019 All-Tournament Teams
PrepHoopsIllinois was in Mequon, Wisconsin all week for the NY2LA Next Level Invitational. It is time for us to unveil our first and second Illinois All-Tournament 2019 Teams. This is based off the play that we personally saw throughout the week!
First Team
MVP: PG Donavan Moore (Illinois Irish)
The best player in the 2019 group from Illinois at Next Level was not even close! Donavan Moore who is from Hillsboro, but will transfer to West Bloomfield High School in Michigan next year absolutely dominant in stretches for the Illinois Irish. At 6’3” this combo guard can do it all. Electric burst off the floor getting to the rim with ease. Slippery through traffic attacking off the bounce. Finishes well at the rim and gets to the foul line. Showed growth on his jump shot hitting them at a higher clip. As a point guard he got others involved making quality decisions. No brainer mid-major player that has high-major upside.
PG Zach Toussaint (Kessel Heat)
Toussaint is a kid that we have referred to as the “Baby Faced Assassin”. He is a flashy point guard that plays with a ton of flair. Like how he pushes it and dishes the rock. Puts others in position to succeed. This lead guard can also shoot it from really deep pulling up. Plus leadership skills.
SG Justin Eagins (Kessel Heat)
Eagins was impressive when we saw him on Sunday. The lefty is a Downers Grove South product that is slippery with the ball and has an angular body type. Sound perimeter shooter that can get really hot from three and likes the step back.
SG Wes Hooker (Kessel Heat)
Hooker is a power 6’2” wing that just gets stuff done. Outstanding rebounder that crashes the glass at an exceptionally high level. A lot of his points come on offensive rebound put backs. Dominant in that area. The majority of his scores come in the paint. Not overly projectable, but just gets stuff done.
PF Charlie Hoehne (Made Men)
Hoehne is a face up four man from OPRF that was phenomenal in the last game we saw over the weekend. The 6’7” post is very skilled with his ability to face up handling, shooting, and passing. Active on the glass and has impressed with his defensive ability especially getting steals for a big man.
Second Team
SG Justin Harmon (All-In Athletics)
Harmon can really shoot it. He is young for his age so he plays on the AIA 15U group. Look for Harmon to make an impact with his perimeter shooting next season for Curie. Smooth wing that has big time scoring potential and projects as a potential D1 prospect.
SF Collin Dietz (Illinois Irish)
Dietz is a tough wing that is transferring to Metamora next season. He doesn’t necessarily do one thing great, but rather is solid across the board. The small forward brings toughness and grit to the table along with mid-range shooting.
PG Antonio Reeves (Mac Irvin Fire)
Reeves was a key cog for the Mac Irvin Fire in their run to the Association championship game. He is a plus shooter with a clean looking stroke. Also showed he is more than just a shooter displaying better handles than we had seen in the past.
PG Jack McDonald (Mercury Elite)
McDonald is a high IQ point guard that knows how to run the show. He can really pass it making sound decisions getting his teammates in position where they can score. Solid shooter that brings toughness to the table.
SG Austin Gates (Mercury Elite)
Gates is an under the radar player that has had a breakout spring and continued to boost his stock. He can knock down shots from beyond the arc both pulling up and off the catch. He is also an outstanding perimeter defender that gets several steals a game.
