July Sleepers Watch: 2018 Smaller Market Guys (Part 1)
With the live periods right around the corner, we at Vantage Hoops will be previewing under the radar guys to keep a watch on across the state. Today, we will look at some of the smaller market guys in the state who should see their recruitment pick up with a good July.
- Tyson Hancock | 6’2” CG | Virginia Bullets
Hancock has really made waves this summer leading a new organization in the VA Bullets, and has drawn good remarks from scouts up and down the east coast. He’s a combo guard with good size, good feel and one who can stuff the stat sheets in a number of ways. He was a big time scorer as a junior at Brookville, and he’s showing that he can be a versatile guard who can make others better and play and guard multiple positions.
- Shey Webb | 6’3” F | Spectrum
While many of Spectrum’s better players have moved on to play for shoe company teams, Webb has stayed the course and is now their go-to guy. The best part of his game is his versatility. He can play all over the court, is a threat to score from the perimeter or on the block and is able to use his craftiness and high IQ to create and score in mismatches. He may be positionless, but with the way basketball is trending that is becoming a positive more than a negative.
- Cole Meadows | 6’4” F | Spectrum
Meadows is another Spectrum kid who has stuck it out, and if he continues to work at his game he could be a high upside player at the next level. He’s a hybrid forward that can guard the 2-4, runs the floor like a guard and makes energy plays on both ends of the floor. He’s long, strong and bouncy, and he can handle it in transition and works well out of the triple threat. If he can continue to improve his jump shot, it should open his game up a lot.
- James Nworah | 6’6” PF | Roanoke Pacers
An undersized four man that plays much bigger than he is, Nworah always impresses coaches with his high motor and quiet production that he brings to the floor every day. He can bang inside with guys much bigger than him, and he has the athleticism and strength to rebound and finish in the paint with him. He lays it all out on the line, he’s unselfish and he doesn’t care about the stat sheet at the end of the day, as long as his team wins.
- Anthony Williams | 6’4” PF | Virginia Bullets
Williams is the perfect small college big man, as he may be undersized but he plays hard, he’s productive and he’s tough in the post. He can face up slower big men and beat them down the floor in transition, he can score it in the midrange and he’s a good rebounder on both ends against players much bigger than him. He has the upper body strength and length to play at the next level, and he still has room to improve on both ends of the floor.
- Kobi Alexander | 6’3” WG | SQBA
Alexander played on a very talented Madison County team that went all the way to the 2A state semifinal game, and with them graduating two of their best players he’s set to have a big senior season moving forward. He has good size, allowing him to play multiple positions because of his length, and he’s a knock down shooter from deep that you can’t leave open. He’s also an underrated athlete that is good off limited dribbles and rebounds well for a wing.
