July Sleeper Watch: 2018 Shooters
With the live periods right around the corner, we at Vantage Hoops will be previewing under the radar guys to keep a watch on across the state. Today, we will get started by looking at some of the best shooters in the state who should see their recruitment pick up with a good July.
- Jalen Jordan | 6’3” WG | Team Thrill UA
Jordan has quietly had a very good high school career, and if he can knock it down at UA Finals in front of coaches it would make sense that he pulls in a few offers. The lefty has good size, rebounds well for a guard and can play anywhere on the wing. He has good footwork off the ball, a quick release and attacks closeouts well once he knocks a couple down to get going.
- Matt Urbach | 6’4” WG | Team Takeover Orange
Urbach had a huge spring, picking up an offer from La Salle in Pittsburgh, and has been very good in summer league according to my colleague Adam Ayalew. What’s great about him is not only does he have good size, but he’s also surprisingly athletic and has good feel on both ends of the floor. The best thing about him is that he has effortless range, and isn’t afraid to let it fly from multiple steps behind the three-point line. You can question whatever you want, but not many shoot it as well as him in the state.
- Ben Horsford | 6’2” WG | Team Pro Look
A true off guard and shooter specialist, Horsford can light it up and will let it fly from all over the floor. He’s great in transition, where he can set his feet and isn’t afraid to let it fly, and he’s also the type of player that relocates well and bigs find on offensive rebounds. His ability to get hot quickly is an asset, because he can hang 9-12 points on opponents in the blink of an eye.
- Ben Kling | 5’11” | LBA Attack
Possibly the most slept on kid on this list, Kling is an absolute sniper who will hit it right in your face and ask why you aren’t guarding him closer. He can play both guard positions, has effortless range and is a tough kid who only plays better against top competition and in close games. The lefty is a volume shooter, but he’s efficient and a guy who rarely goes through shooting slumps.
- Cameron O’Conner | 6’3” | Spectrum Sports
A true shooter specialist, O’Conner is a set shooter but rarely misses when he gets an open look. He has good size, picture perfect form and his ability to knock it down is one of the reasons that his guards and bigs always find him on kick outs.
- Chris Dean | 6’3” | River City Reign
Dean really got it going late in the spring for Reign, and if he plays with the confidence he has been there’s no doubt he’ll turn heads with his ability to stroke it. He can hit from midrange all the way out to the NBA line, and he has good form, a high IQ and good size allowing him to play and guard multiple positions. A high academic kid as well, Dean should see some interest come his way from schools across the area.
- Jordan White | 6’3” | Team Takeover Grey
White has come a long way over the past couple of seasons, and his ability to take and make big shots is evident as he has his best games in the most important games. He has worked on his body and conditioning to where he can play the entire game, and he has a shooter’s mentality that the next one will always go in. He’s a strong kid, so he’s also able to attack closeouts and finish in the midrange or at the basket, and he’s a good rebounder for a shooter as well.
