Jayhawk Invitational: Top Shooters (Thursday)
Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the top shooters to compete this week at the Jayhawk Invitational in Overland Park.
Top Shooters
Ben Cooper, 6’1, PG, 2019, Rock Bridge (Mo.) Brad Beal Elite
Has a quick shooting stroke and comes off the Brad Beal Elite bench to light things up. Cooper is a smooth ballhandling point guard with good quickness and a feel for playing the game under control. He has good form and balance on his outside shot and a quick trigger that allows him to get it off against bigger players.
Jett Canfield, 6’0, PG, 2018, Topeka Hayden (Kan.) KC Run GMC
One of the better point guards in Kansas’ 2018 class, Canfield is a knock down perimeter shooter with deep range. He provides Run GMC with a spark off the bench and knocked down several triples in that role the first two days of action.
Will Eames, 6’5, F, 2018, Lee’s Summit (Mo.) Kansas Elite
Probably not a name most basketball fans in the Kansas City area know yet, but Eames is a skilled offensive performer who is poised for a big senior year. He can score all over the court and has a variety of moves that catches opponents off guard. However, his calling card is his outside shooting stroke as Eames can really light it up from distance.
Jalen Lewis, 5’10, PG, 2018, Liberty (Mo.) Team Rush
Lewis has a lightening quick shooting trigger and uses his speed and quickness to create separation off the bounce. He is coming off a big junior season for Liberty and has established himself as one of the premier players in Kansas City entering the upcoming season.
Quinn Nelson, 6’3, SG, 2018, Ozark (Mo.) MBA Flight
Nelson continues to impress as a shooter. He has a quick release and terrific form and balance and can shoot off the catch or the bounce. He has an improving mid-range game and has improved as an all-around player in the past calendar year.
Noah Thomas, 6’4, SG, 2018, KC Run GMC
One of the better shooters we saw in the field was Run GMC 2018 shooting guard Noah Thomas. A 6’4 guard, Thomas is a knock down shooter from 3-point range and has a nice pull-up game off the bounce. He got it going on Thursday against Martin Brothers in Pool Play and hit three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.
Jordan Walton, 6’0, PG, 2018, Yanders Law
Known for his outside shooting, Walton has become a household name among hoop fans across the state. He put together a strong performance in a loss on Wednesday to Hoops 4 Health, then came back with four 3-pointers in the first half in a win over NDaGym on Thursday.
