Jayhawk Invitational: Shooting Guards (Thursday)
Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at some of the top shooting guards to compete this week at the Jayhawk Invitational in Overland Park.
Top shooting guards
Ronnie Bell, 6’2, SG, 2018, Park Hill (Mo.) Team Rush
Bell is emerging this summer as a sure-fire Division I prospect and has showed why throughout play at the Jayhawk. He is a combo guard that can play either the point or off the ball and impresses with his leadership qualities. Bell is a terrific perimeter shooter showing form and balance and is able to get to the bucket, displaying terrific body control and the ability to finish tough chances.
Krys Johnson, 6’3, SG, 2018, Ottawa (Kan.) KC Spurs
One of the more underrated players in Kansas, Johnson is a strong, powerfully built guard in a forward’s body. He can handle the ball a little, shoot from the outside and has the ability to take smaller players into the post. Johnson also impresses with his ability to get on the boards.
Glen McClintock, 6’1, SG, 2019, Rockhurst (Mo.) Team Rush
McClintock is a hybrid point guard/shooting guard who is a tough-as-nails competitor. He can handle the ball, set up his own shot and is a standout shooter. He had a terrific showing on Wednesday night against KC Run GMC, leading Team Rush in scoring.
Quinn Nelson, 6’3, SG, 2018, Ozark (Mo.) MBA Flight
Nelson is among Missouri’s premier shooters entering his senior season, but he has taken his game to another level with his ability to handle the ball and make plays. Nelson will be among southwest Missouri’s premier players this upcoming season and should find a home at the college level.
Mason Taylor, 6’3, SG, 2018, Grandview (Mo.) KC Pacers
Kid can really play. Taylor is a smooth guard who can play the point or run off the ball. He is a creative ball handler able to get into the lane and finish in traffic, or pull up off the bounce for jumpers. He has impressed this summer with his outside shooting and on Thursday showed off his athleticism in a win over Oklahoma PWP, throwing down a dunk while getting fouled.
Jordan Walton, 6’0, SG/PG, 2018, Glendale (Mo.) Yanders Law
Known for his outside shooting, Walton has become a household name among hoop fans across the state. He put together a strong performance in a loss on Wednesday to Hoops 4 Health, then came back with four 3-pointers in the first half in a win over NDaGym on Thursday.
