Intro: Luke Ervie (2020)
Luke Ervie is a 6’0” 2020 combo guard out of Freeburg that plays with a lot of toughness and grit. The guard has an advanced feel for the game at a young age. Plays with good pace and doesn’t rush things. Takes what the defense gives him. Sound perimeter shooter especially off the catch from three. Can also hit a pull up shot with some consistency. Solid handles in the lane slashing off the bounce. Struggles a bit finishing through contact due to lack of strength. Creative passer in the half court making sound reads with the ball. Rebounds well for a lead guard. One to watch going forward!
Ervie discussed his freshman season playing under Coach Matt Laur at Freeburg.
“It went good. I got good varsity minutes. Scored a little bit. This year I am looking to do more. We should be good next year. We have a lot of nice pieces.”
What areas of his game has he been focusing on his spring?
“My handles and decision making have gotten better. When to attack and when to dish it off.”
The Freeburg standout is running with Gateway 15U on the Adidas circuit.
“It has been good. We are winning. We are going to South Carolina for the Finale. I am a two guard on that team that handles the ball and shoots it when I am open.”
This is a young southern Illinois wing prospect that is definitely worth monitoring over the next few years as he has the feel for a game at a young age with the potential to develop into a dynamic scorer.
