Intro: CJ Benton (2019)
De La Salle 2019 small forward CJ Benton really impressed us with his play late in the spring for Young & Reckless 16U. He has great size at around 6’5” with a long and lanky frame. Smooth athlete that runs the floor well and can finish above the rim in transition with monster alley-oop slams. The area he has improved the most is his perimeter shooting. Clean and fluid release from three. Shooting it with a lot of confidence. Can hit them both off the catch and pulling up. Defensively and on the boards has a chance to be a plus for his position especially if he continues to get stronger. Low-majors need to start monitoring.
How has the spring gone with Y&R?
“The spring is going great. We are playing a lot of good teams and I feel that it is high competition. I think I am doing good. I am trying to bring a lot of energy to the table because that is what I have been lacking so far.”
When his game is on point what is he doing best?
“I am a slasher so going to the bucket. I am also improving on my jump shot so that has become a strength too.”
Benton broke down how De La Salle did this past season.
“At first we did good and then we took a turn for the bad. We ended up doing decent overall.”
Any early recruiting interest?
“Ohio University has talked to me and also Loyola.”
