Class of 2020 Top Posts
The group of power forwards and centers in 2020 has to be one of the best young groups as far as pure numbers in a while. Here we go in-depth on the best of the best!
Shon Robinson (Morgan Park)
Overall Rank: #4
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Robinson is one of the premier post prospects in his class. He played most of the year on the sophomore team for the Mustangs where he posted big numbers. At 6’8” Robinson has great size and length. He will definitely need to add strength on over the next few years, but he has plenty of time for that. Stretches the floor with his shooting out to beyond the arc. Runs the floor great and has mobility around the hoop finishing well. Potential as a rim protector down the line.
Kee Hargrow (Joliet Central)
Overall Rank: #9
Travel Team: Meanstreets
Hargrow broke out in our eyes this spring playing with Meanstreets. He only played on the sophomore team this past year so not a lot of people know about him, but they will soon. Very mobile post player with quickness around the hoop. Quick off the ground and is super bouncy finishing in the paint. Works well in the pick and roll. Solid rebounder with projectability long term.
Dominic Franklin (Urban Prep Englewood)
Overall Rank: #10
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Franklin came on our radar at one of our PrepHoops camps back in the spring after he just moved here from Atlanta. The 6’6” 2020 power forward is set to attend Urban Prep Englewood next season. He has a ton of potential! He has a lot of physical tools to work with as he is super long and moves very well for his size. Almost runs the floor like a guard. So fluid and easy going up and down the floor. Excels in transition getting passes by running the court for finishes. Active big man that gets on the glass and snatches them with strong hands. His post moves are a little raw at this stage, but has the ability to grow in that area. Like his mid-range game a lot. Hit multiple 15 foot jumpers and looked comfortable putting it on the deck a couple dribbles. D1 prospect.
Connor Linke (St. Charles North)
Overall Rank: #13
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
Linke stands at 6’8” with a 6’10” wingspan. The 2020 center from St. Charles North has great size and moves very well. Tremendous upside, but will need to add on strength in his final three years of high school. Linke has impressed us with his competitiveness in the paint especially on the defensive end. Shot blocking presence that has a chance to be a plus rim protector. Rebounds very well in his area. Gets on the offensive glass at a nice clip for put backs. Flashes potential scoring on the block.
Devon House (Sterling Newman)
Overall Rank: #14
Travel Team: Quad City Elite
House is a 6’6” center that has a wide body. He is effective using it to create space on the interior. Carves out room to work in the paint. Soft touch around the hoop and uses the glass well. Although an under the rim athlete at this stage he has nimble footwork and some agility around the hoop including a nice up and under. Dominates rebounding in his area. The part that was most impressive this spring was the passing he displayed going post to post, high/low, and finding cutters through the lane. House should be monitored by D1 programs early in the process.
Seryee Lewis (Kenwood)
Overall Rank: #15
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Lewis is a 6’7” power forward from Kenwood who is an uber athletic post player. He is a run/jump athlete that is extremely fluid running the floor. Super bouncy four man that can finish above the rim with explosive dunks. Makes quick moves on the interior for scores. Isn’t an overly skilled back to the basket scorer at this stage, but shows potential in that area. He is best scoring on the block right now sealing off his man in the high/low. Excellent mid-range jump shooter that is consistently accurate from 15-18 feet. Shoots it quick and with confidence. Solid rebounder, but could show more toughness against physical post players fighting for balls. Defensively has potential as a shot blocker. Lot of upside here. How consistently his motor runs will have a lot to do with how good Lewis becomes. Has D1 ability for sure.
Patrick Ready (Belleville Althoff)
Overall Rank: #17
Travel Team: Brad Beal Elite
Ready made us take notice of him during the high school season playing on Belleville Althoff’s JV team. The 6’6” four man has a well-built upper body along with good length. Strong hands and soft touch around the hoop. Outstanding area rebounder that gobbles them up with his long arms. Not an overly explosive vertical athlete at this stage he can block shots on occasion. Post to track for D1 schools.
Colin Crothers (Benet)
Overall Rank: #18
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
Crothers has a chance to be among the better centers in this class. The Benet post has size and a good build. Moves well for his size and is active. Crothers played both on the 16U and 15U levels in the spring. Fights for position on the block and showed quality footwork. Struggled finishing at the rim in several games through traffic that we evaluated. Showed he could handle it a little too out of the high post putting it on the deck for a couple dribbles.
Martice Mitchell (Bloom)
Overall Rank: #19
Travel Team: All-In
At 6’8” the long and thin post has great height, but will need to pack on strength over the next few years. The 2020 post moves extremely well for his height as he runs the floor with ease and moves around well on the interior of the defense. Caught a big alley-oop dunk. He showed that he can knock down a mid-range jumper with confidence. The skilled post also had a few passes on the interior for assists. Very intriguing prospect in 2020.
Chris Conway (Loyola)
Overall Rank: #20
Travel Team: ET21 Buckeyes
Conway has a long and lanky build with a projectable frame at 6’7”. Looks like he could grow a couple more inches. Excellent rebounder that high points the ball at its highest point and outlets it to his guards. Consistently gets on the glass. Little weak finishing around the hoop at this early stage. Has a chance to be an excellent shot blocking and post defender down the road. This is going to be a name we are going to be hearing more about down the line!
Jordan Kwiecinski (Loyola)
Overall Rank: #21
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
Kwiechinski is a 6’6” four man from Loyola that has long term upside. He is rail thin at this stage and will need to add significant strength over the next three years. Like how he is a scrappy player and plays with a lot of grit. High points rebounds and plays hard. Runs the floor extremely well for a big. Hit a nice pull up mid-range shot. Intriguing prospect to watch his development.
Bennett Kwiecinski (Loyola)
Overall Rank: #22
Travel Team: Illinois Wolves
This Loyola 6’6” power forward is long and thin. He lacks functional strength and will need to add a lot of bulk over the next few years. The 2020 post has some tools to work with. Very mobile for his size and rebounds well snatching them at their highest point. Makes strong outlet passes. Flashes ability to score on the block with quick moves.
Nate Seputis (Lincoln Way East)
Overall Rank: #30
Travel Team: Team RWA
Seputis is the top prospect on a solid Team RWA 16U group and he is playing up a year with this squad! The long and wiry big is an excellent defensive rebounder that once he adds on strength will be even better! Rim protector as he is a shot blocking presence at a young age. Flashes skill being able to hit a mid-range jumper. Tons of upside with this 6’9” post!
