BSN Summer League Superlatives (Part 3)
HYATTSVILLE, MD — With the recent conclusion of the annual BSN Summer League at DeMatha, it’s time to take a closer look at some of the standouts. Below you will find part three of our superlatives series.
BEST POINT GUARD | STEVE CANNADY | PALLOTTI ‘18
This was a difficult choice, but Cannady gets the nod for the astonishingly consistent numbers he put up on both ends of the floor. In the six games we saw, he averaged 17.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and committed just one turnover per contest. Cannady shot 33 of 65 from the field, 11 of 19 from three, and 20 of 22 from the line. He was instrumental in leading Pallotti to a 9-1 regular season record, and a run to the final four.
BEST COMBO GUARD | CHRISTIAN JONES | ANNAPOLIS ‘18
Jones put up gaudy scoring numbers, but is a combo guard by trade. At 6’3, he is well versed on the ball, but is comfortable on the wing as well. In the three games we saw, Jones averaged 29 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 2.3 assists per game. He shot 42% from the field, and showcased high level athleticism on both ends of the floor.
BEST PLAYMAKER | JADEN FAULKNER | ROOSEVELT ‘18
Faulkner gets the nod here because he does so much for Roosevelt. The 6’4 lead guard averaged 20.5 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks in the three games we saw. The talented and long-limbed rising senior is a notable presence both on the glass, and in the passing lanes. When engaged, you won’t find many players locally who can match his production.
BEST WING | MEZIE OFFURUM | GEORGETOWN PREP ‘18
Was there a more productive wing that Offurum? Probably not. The 6’6 rising senior averaged 15.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals in the six games we saw him play. Offurum asserted himself, and made it a point to get to the foul line. He hit 13 of 15, and 8 of 9 from the charity stripe in two of his best games.
BEST BIG MAN | HUNTER DICKINSON | DEMATHA ‘20
Dickinson closed out his summer league with a monster performance. The rising sophomore recorded 21 points, 20 rebounds, six blocks, four assists, and three steals in a thrilling double overtime win over Springbrook. Dickinson fared well in his other games as well. In the four games we saw, he averaged 16 points, 14 rebounds, 4.75 blocks, 1.25 steals, and 1.75 assists. Dickinson already considered a top big man in the area, but he is still just scratching the surface of his significant ceiling.
