Around the State : Richland County District 1 (2018)
Prep Hoops SC continues its trip around the Palmetto State. Next stop is the city of Columbia and Richland County. The Richland County School District is broken up into districts. Prep Hoops SC will take a look at District 1 to start things off.
A.C. Flora, C.A. Johnson, Columbia HS, Dreher HS, Eau Claire HS, Keenan HS and Lower Richland HS make up the district. Here is a look at some of the top 2018 players in this article.
Diamante Brown – A.C. Flora HS
Brown has really filled out in the past year with his frame. Brown 6’6 really likes to stalk the baseline with his athletic frame. Brown has the ability to handle the rock up the floor. Brown plays with Upward Stars Southeast 2018 on the AAU Circuit. Brown even averaged 7.1 rebounds and 5 assists last season for the Falcons.
Zach Foulks – A.C. Flora HS
Foulks a combo guard has a nice shooting stroke and has the ability to get by defenders with the ball. Foulks runs AAU with the Carolina Wolves 17U.
Simon Grant – Dreher HS (pictured on front)
Grant really has a knack to score the ball for the Blue Devils. Grant wants to and looks to score the ball when given the chance. Grant averaged 17.5 ppg last season for the Blue Devils who made it to the 3rd Round of the SCHSL Playoffs before being defeated by eventual State Champion Lower Richland HS. Grant plays AAU with the South Carolina Kings.
Travis “TJ” Brown – Dreher HS
Brown 6’3 has a great mid-range game 15-17 feet on th perimeter. Brown plays AAU with Lower Richland Promise a local outfit mostly consisting of Dreher HS kids. Brown who has good length loves to have the ball in his hands when ever possible.
Anthony Flagler – Eau Claire HS
Flagler recently arrived at Eau Claire HS after attending Keenan HS last season. Flagler 6’8 will look to get some quality minutes this season for the Shamrocks. Flagler a raw talent still is long and can run the floor. Flagler was recently playing AAU with Team Vision (NC).
Earvin Stone – Keenan HS
Stone is a blue collar tough ass kid in the paint. Stone won’t wow you with anything he does but he just brings effort on both sides of the floor. Stone rebounds out of his area and will draw contact all night long. Stone averaged just 5.6 ppg last season for the 22-6 Raiders. Stone understands his role on this team and he has been yelled at and coached.
Tevaughn Higgins – Lower Richland HS
Higgins is a quarterback on the gridiron for the Diamond Hornets. Higgins 6’3 is a mismatch in the paint at times and helped the Diamond Hornets win the 4A State Championship last season over Wren HS. Higgins has a great nose for the ball and has the ability to play inside-out on the floor. Higgins averaged 11.8 ppg last season.
Higgins was (146-313) 2121 passing yards / 16 Touchdowns / 14 Interceptions last season.
