Arizona 2018 July Watch List
The class of 2018 has a number of skilled players currently holding scholarship offers. This group is immensely talented; however, most are still uncommitted for next season. Here is a watch list of the players who should be the most interesting to monitor this during the live period this July.
2018 Watch List
Steele Bennett 6’11 C Desert Vista (Factory)
At this time last year, Bennett was receiving interest from multiple NCAA Division I schools. Bennett is still receiving interest and is regarded by many to be the best center in this class. U really enjoy watching his patience and footwork on the block. Bennett is definitely a Division I caliber kid and will have the opportunity to play against elite level competition with the Factory this July. These live periods will be crucial in Bennett making a decision regarding his future.
Rashaad Smith 6’4 PG/SG Hamilton (Las Vegas Prospects)
How a 6’4 PG can go under the radar is beyond me. However, it seems that Smith manages to do just that at times. In addition to his size, he is one of the most balanced guards in this class. He is a smooth operator who has an extremely good feel for the game. His length enables him to guard and play at multiple spots while his handle, shooting ability, and basketball IQ aid him in doing the same on the offensive end. Smith is an NCAA Division I caliber guard with a lot to prove to next level suitors this live period.
Josh Johnson 5’7 PG Maricopa (Team Zona)
Johnson is one of the most explosive and skilled guards in the entire state. He creates off of the dribble as well as anyone and can hurt opposing teams in an array of way. He will be one of the quickest and fastest prospects at any tournament he is at this July. In addition, his ability to score the basketball seems to get better when the degree of difficulty of the shot is increased. Johnson gets overlooked because of his height which is quite unfortunate because his athleticism and skill set negate a lot of the negatives of his size. Johnson is a next level player.
Tashon Brown 5’11 PG Paradise Valley (AZ Power North)
Brown has consistently been one of the top guards in the state for this class. He has great change of pass and finishes extremely well around the rim. He can shoot the basketball from deep and his shooting percentages seem to go up in the fourth quarter. Brown has the “clutch gene” and is extremely skilled. Brown is another guard in a long list of skilled guards to come out of Paradise Valley. Look for him to compete at a high level this July as he looks to find a landing place after high school.
Ajang Aguek 6’7 SF/PF Ironwood (PowerHouse Hoops Red)
After a coming out party at the Southwest All-American Camp, Aguek looks to continue the positive momentum. Holding a lot of interest from the NAIA Division I and JUCO level, he could be looking to play his way into a Division I offer. Aguek has grown tremendously from his freshman year to this point as far as height and skill are concerned. Further, he is one of the most versatile players in the state and should be looking for a big July.
