Adidas Invitational: Friday
INDIANAPOLIS, IN | Games were really starting to get more interesting on Friday as bracket play began at the Adidas Invitational. Some players stepped up big time and there were plenty of highlights.
Schriber Scores 33 For IE Side 2018
Indianapolis Roncalli wing Kellen Schreiber was a guy that you weren’t really expecting to have a huge weekend as he plays for one of the many Indiana Elite programs. However, scoring 33 points and doing it in front of a pretty large group of coaches will help change the narrative.
The 6’4 wing had himself a day as he scored 33 points with 24 points coming in the second half against Basketball New South Wales.
Kellen is kind of a do-it-all wing who outplays his skill level because of his energy and effort he brings to every game. He’s been a consistent fixture for Roncalli for a while now but he has turned heads this weekend as many local small colleges have been talking about him the last couple days.
IE Central 2020 Can Play
The Indiana Elite Central 2020 group is made up of mostly Lafayette area players and while the area doesn’t have a ton of talent year in and year out, this group might be the best set of talent in quite some time.
With guys like Rowen Ferrell, Harrison Truitt, and Carson Barrett, they put on a show on Friday afternoon. Ferrell was as impressive as anyone on the day. The nearly 6’0 guard has grown in the last year and has become quite a bit better with his handles. Pair that with his current ability to knock down jumper after jumper and now you have a guy who could become really good, really quick.
In their game against Team Carroll Premier 2020, they 16 threes combined as a team. Ferrell had 6 of them himself to go along with 25 points and an easy victory.
Nate Soltis Becoming Better Each Game
Cardinal Ritter wing Nate Soltis may still be in the 2019 class but soon he is going to start drawing in some colleges because he has proven over the last few months that he can be one of the best players in the class. The 6’5, bouncy wing is built like a linebacker and plays just as tough. That combo is hard to find.
Playing with Indiana Elite Diesel 2019, he had a great morning game against ET21 Buckeyes who had a few pretty skilled wing players. It didn’t matter as he scored 22 points and easily had double-digit rebounds. His toughness won out most of the interior battles.
Like most players his age, he’s got some things he needs to work on but overall, he’s got the kind of body and mentality that should continue to allow him to develop. He already is at the top of the list for a few premier small college programs in-state which should tell you something about how good he can be. If those schools are calling now, he’s likely got a lot more to look for soon.
