Recruiting Report: Uhana Ochan (2018)
Uhana Ochan is an athletic 6-foot-5 forward with lots of potential, so it’s easy to see why multiple AAU teams wanted him this summer.
The Mankato East 2018 prospect is splitting time with both D1 MN Rise and Grassroots Sizzle. So far, so good.
“AAU is going great,” he said. “I’m having a lot of fun. There were only two conflicts in may so that I had a tourney for both teams on the same weekend, but other than that it’s not hard. I usually get like a four-day break to rest and go again the next weekend.”
Already a known dunker and rebounder, Ochan is working on rounding out his skillset. He feels like he has made the most progress in his passing. “I’m starting to make smarter passes and getting better at finding my teammates,” he said.
With a 3.39 GPA, Ochan is in that range of prospect where more selective academic schools are contacting him. The big one recently was Ivy League Cornell University.
“The latest college to contact me is Cornell University,” he said. “I’ve got interest from Sioux Falls, Concordia-Moorhead, Saint Mary’s and Gustavus. I’m looking for a college where I will be filling in a role on the team, both offensively and defensively.”
He doesn’t need junior college to boost his grades, that’s for sure. But what if he wanted to go juco in order to help his ball skills develop even further before picking a four-year institution?
“I always wanted to play college basketball to push my basketball career as far as possible, even if I could play for a juco,” Ochan added. “I would do it! Any college interest is a blessing.”
