Recruiting Report: Sy Chatman (2018)
Six-foot-6 explosive power forward Sy Chatman of Cretin-Derham Hall is one of the 2018 talents that several college coaches have eyes on.
Chatman was a key piece of the CDH Raiders state tournament team that made the state tournament this year and has a huge season ahead of them.
“This winter I became a lot more aggressive and started looking for my shot instead of just scoring off of what others create for me.” Chatman said.
Sy averaged nine points, five plus boards, and shot 52 percent for the 16-17 Raider squad.
“One experience that I will never forget was just the crazy run Tartan had against us in the section championship and they brought it within two with two minutes left and us being able to overcome the crowd and momentum and punch our ticket to state.”
The ticket was punched and now the Raiders are on the short list of teams considered to be Class AAAA favorites for next year’s state title. What is Sy doing to get himself ready for his final year?
“You can always improve on your jump shot but I’m going to focus on just getting bigger in the weight room and my ball handling,” Chatman said.
Chatman is now a part of the Howard Pulley squad that was at one point the number one team in the nation and remains one of the best five teams in the nation.
“It has really humbled me and it is crazy just the talent you go against weekly on the (EYBL) circuit,” Chatman said. “I haven’t played as much as I would like but I’m working on that.”
There are many teams hoping to see Chatman more soon and two division one will see him on their campus.
“I just got done with a camp at Nebraska-Omaha and I’m going to Denver in August but those are I’ve been hearing from the most,” Sy said.
What are the upcoming goals for Chatman?
“Just to pick up some solid offers and continue to get them throughout the high school season and then end my high school career with a state championship!”
