Recruiting Report: Sam Shafer (2018)
Lincoln Way East 2018 small forward Sam Shafer is a big wing at 6’5” with a plus perimeter shot! He can really let it fly from the perimeter! Outstanding spot up shooter that has deep range on his three ball. More than just a shooter he is a quality athlete with size that can handle it a little and get out in transition.
Shafer had a big year at LWE as a junior.
“It was a great year. We broke the school record with 20 wins and 11 losses. I broke three of the records scoring. I averaged 16 points per game. Had a lot of rebounds. It was a good year overall.”
His game began to evolve throughout the year.
“I tried to spread out the game. I used to be just a shooter, but now I can put it on the ground. If they are too close to me I can get my teammates involved.”
What does he feel he can bring to a team at the next level?
“My height, athletic ability, my shooting, and rebounding. Spacing the floor.”
Shafer broke down where things stand with his recruitment.
“I have one offer from SIU. I am talking to Ohio, Drake, Western Illinois, Central Michigan, Furman, Western Michigan, Indiana State, Denver, and Brown.”
SIU has extended the wing an offer. He took a visit there in May.
“I loved it. The coaches were great. They seemed really interested. It was a great campus. I loved it there.”
Shafer has visits lined up to Drake on June 13 and Ohio on June 21.
