Recruiting Report: Ryan Mazurek (2018)
Colleges: if you need an outside shooter in the 2018 class, Ryan Mazurek might be your guy. The 43 Hoops 17U/Holy Angels wing has proven his ability to hit from the arc.
“Our very first game, he went 7-for-8 downtown,” 43 Hoops coach Shaye Fields said. “Overall that weekend, he shot over 66% from three. He has a nice mid-range pull-up jumper as well.”
Ryan moved to 43 Hoops from Heat Reese, joining some of his old teammates. 43 Hoops has definitely been a surprise in 17U, gaining several quality wins.
“The season is going pretty well,” Mazurek said of AAU. “It’s nice to play with Wendell Matthews again after being on Heat Reese with him last year. It’s also nice to play with a bunch of new guys with a ton of talent. I think we have all the talent in the world, we just need to get better at handling pressure at the end of games and work on playing more as a team.”
Fields was quick to compliment Mazurek’s demeanor as well as his shooting skill.
“(Ryan is) hands down one of the most coachable, responsible, soft-spoken players on the team. I haven’t had any off-court conflicts with him, whether it’s academics or effort,” Fields said.
Mazurek is getting to that point where colleges are inquiring about him, and he’s doing some of his own research as well.
“I’ve been contacted by St. John’s, St. Thomas, St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s, Elon, and University of Chicago and a few others. I’m looking for a college that is known for business and has a good college feel.”
