Recruiting Report: Nathan Rund (2018)
Fergus Falls guard Nathan Rund has taken the Otters to the state tournament the last two seasons and teams at the NSIC level like what they’ve seen.
Rund led Fergus Falls to a 27-5 season and a consolation title at state. Rund scored 12.4 points, three boards, four assists, and a couple steals a game. Nate has also become a top defender and a better lead guard.
“My point guard skills improved but I made my biggest strides in my defense and I now take a lot of pride on that end of the floor,” Rund said.
“I learned this year that it’s hard when your expected to win, when you’re the one with the target on your back just as my team and I had this year.”
Rund is hoping to save his best season for his final year and he knows how he wants to do that.
“To continue to be successful when in that position you can’t change your mindset from what got you to the point where your the ones that others want to knock off. You have to stay the aggressor.”
Rund is once again on the top Comets team this year and this level of play has allowed him to notice the importance of the smaller parts of the game.
“Playing AAU ball has given me experiences to play against guys that are much bigger, faster, and stronger than me,” Nathan said. “Personally it comes down to doing the little things whether that is getting my shot off quicker or learning to use my body better to protect the ball.
“Playing at this level, I can’t get away with going half-ass or being casual so I’ve learned how to give full effort all the time.”
Four NSIC schools are showing Rund strong interest.
“I am hearing from multiple NSIC schools mostly Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota State-Moorhead, U of Mary, and U of Sioux Falls,” Rund said. “I was on a visit at USF recently and plan on visiting the other this summer.”
