Recruiting Report: Nate Hendler (2018)
Nate Hendler, a 6-foot-4 small forward who plays for Holy Family during the winter and Powerhouse MN during the summer, caught my eye during the Northstar Hoops State Tournament when he was bombing 3s from deep. We linked up with him and talked a bit about his role within a talented AAU squad.
“We have had new additions to our team,” Hendler said. Powerhouse has added Anthony Davis, Deng Deang and more. “The makeup is different from last year. My role as a shooter is the same, but I am also asked to play as a big and play defense on 2s, 3s, and 4s in certain situations. I am in the game to get up at least 7–8 shots.”
He highlighted his increased range as an area where he has grown.
“My range as a shooter has expanded exponentially,” he added. “I have no problem shooting 30-footers. And my confidence as a player has risen because of my teammates and coaches.”
As a college prospect in both basketball and football, Hendler is balancing interest from many colleges.
“I have gotten D2 and D3 college interest,” he said. “My D3 interest includes St. Olaf, Macalester and University of Chicago. Last week Johns Hopkins inquired about me. I have also been contacted for football, too, where I mostly have NSIC interest. My main goal is to go to school for education, and sports could be my gateway to that education. I have taken visits to St. Olaf, University of Chicago and Point Loma in San Diego.”
And any colleges programs miss Nate during the summer (see Powerhouse this weekend at Great Plains Alliance!), they can see him play this winter for the Holy Family Fire.
“We are going to win a lot of unexpected games,” Nate said of Holy Family. “We only graduated 60 points. We will have experience, and we are looking to build off a surprising post season run last year.”
