Recruiting Report: Matt Nowicki (2019)
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 6-foot-7 power forward Matt Nowicki had to take some time to get acclimated to his new school and teammates after transferring from Forest Hills Northern last season.
But now, with a full season and some summer ball under his belt, he’s feeling more like a part on this team then an add on.
“Once I was finally able to play (last season) it was a little hard adjusting, because everyone already knew their spot, and me coming in, I was trying to find my own,” said Nowicki, who says he played mostly in the paint last season when he was eligible to play.
Now, it looks as though the Eaglets will use him as more of a stretch-four, and he’s been working out on the perimeter more so far this summer.
“Now in the summer league, they’re having me play out a little more, pop out and do things off the dribble,” said Nowicki. “I’m not just stuck in the post anymore.”
The versatile forward — Michigan’s 51st-ranked 2019 — defined his specific current skill-set to PHMI.
“I wouldn’t call myself a dominant scorer, but I’m strong around the basket and mid-range. I can also see the floor very well,” he said. “I know where people need to be, and I know how to get people open too.”
This spring and summer, Nowicki is playing with Greenwood Elite 16U. And says though his recruitment has started to take some shape, he’s hoping to get that first offer soon.
“I talked to the coach at U of D Mercy, he came and talked to me. And then I’ve gotten a couple calls from Albion and Adrian, and that’s about it,” said Nowicki.
“I’m just hoping to get my name out there a little bit more, talk to more schools and hopefully get an offer. But I’m just going out there and keep playing, and trying my best.”
