Recruiting Report: Luke Siwek (2018)
Fury Antl is one of the top 17U teams in the state and while Luke Siwek might not necessarily fill up the stat sheet consistently for them, he’s played a crucial role in the team’s success.
Siwek, a 6-foot guard from Rosemount is arguably the team’s best perimeter defender and 3-point shooter. That’s a combo that plays nowadays more than ever.
Siwek might be a bit of a tweener in that he’s not a point guard but he lacks prototypical two-guard size. He makes up for it with an expanding skillset and ineffectual toughness.
“I’ve kind of had to do a little bit of everything,” Siwek said. “Manny [Jingco] and Max [Bjorklund] are our two big scorers but some games I’ll score around 20. Some games it’ll be five or six with maybe more assists and rebounds. Trying to do a little bit of everything and find where I can fit and help the team.”
Fury Antl is a potent offensive group but if there’s an area that team’s had to make strides, it’s on the defensive side of the floor. They’ve got good defenders but getting the buy-in has taken some prodding.
Siwek doesn’t need that kind of prodding. His defensive motor runs hot and he used a combination of quickness and tenacity to defend top-end perimeter players successfully.
“I try to pride myself on playing good defense,” said Siwek. “It sucks when you give up 60, 70, 80 points in a game so I really pride myself in locking down the guy I’m guarding.”
Siwek’s drawn interest and heard from several colleges including Hamline, Concordia-Moorhead, Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Wheaton (Illinois).
Time to draw more college interest and narrow down potential schools will come. For now, Siwek is just hoping to keep helping his team win and get better.
“I just want to work as hard as I can, improve as much as I can and help our team keep going far in tournaments,” said Siwek.
