Recruiting Report: Isa Maguire (2018)
Lindbloom 2018 center Isa Maguire is an intriguing post prospect at 6’9”. He has gotten a little taller since we last saw him and somewhat stronger, but needs to add even more strength. He is a fluid moving post that is outstanding running up and down the floor in transition. Gets quite a few of his points as a rim runner. Can handle it some from mid-range and attack facing up. The lack of strength hurts him finishing around the hoop. Potential as a rim protector especially coming from the weak side. Maguire is a low-major/D2 prospect and an outstanding student in the classroom!
He went in depth about his junior year at Lindbloom where they struggled as a team.
“I feel it could have went a lot better. We played in the Red-Central and played a lot of the top competition in the city. I feel as a team we had a lot of issues to where we could play with them, but it wasn’t a consistent thing especially our first Kenwood game was close. We had a lot of good players. We just couldn’t click as a team. I think we had bad team chemistry which led to problems in our season. I feel like we have potential to be a great team next year even though they moved us down to the white division. We have a lot of good players with a new offense. We are building on our past experience last season so we can have a great season next year.”
What areas has he seen the most improvement in his development?
“My athleticism and my stamina has gotten better. I can play way longer and be in there longer stretches of the game. My strength I am gaining weight. I am training and feeling more comfortable on the court. My athletic ability and jump shot has really improved over the last few months. Driving to the cup to where I can be an all-around scorer at times.”
He really enjoys running on a high powered Young & Reckless 17U squad on the circuit.
“I love playing for Young & Reckless. It is like a big family. It is really fun. We move the ball a lot. We have a lot of great shooters on the team and great passers. It is really fun playing with these guys.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I got an offer from the University of North Dakota. That was my first offer. I have a lot of D1 interest from Ivy Leagues and high academics schools. I am trying to play well through the summer and get some more offers.”
North Dakota has made an early impression on the post player.
“I know they made it to the tournament this past year. That really attracted me to them. It shows that they have a good coaching staff. A lot of good players. Also I know they are moving to the Summit League which I feel will be better for them as a team. I know they have a good program and when I was talking to the coach he talked about their high academics and how they value their academics there. They give their players a lot of freedom to come work out and improve on their game individually.”
Several other programs are staying in contact with him.
“I am talking to Cornell especially, Brown, Colombia, and Yale.”
Maguire would like to start taking some visits soon and get to know these programs better in person and see their campus.
