Recruiting Report: Garrett Bickett (2018)
Garrett Bickett led Carrington to a 19-5 season playing one of the tougher Class B schedules in the state. Now he is preparing for his senior year by playing with the Phenom.
“During the high school season I had to step up my offensive game and my leadership on the court,” Bickett told PHD. “I was looked at to do most of the scoring and the playmaking as well as set the pace on offense as the point guard.”
It was an excellent junior year for Bickett but a year that has fueled his fire for the future.
“The experiences I will always remember will be the Linton game where we won by two points and the Region Championship. I’ll never forget the feeling of losing that game.”
Bickett had some big number games this winter including his 30 point explosion against Velva/Sawyer. Garrett wants to finish against contact and hit from distance more as a senior.
“I’m hoping to extend my range, become stronger, and become better defensively,” Garrett said.
Garrett is playing with the North Dakota Phenom this spring and summer challenging him to compete at a higher level.
“The most challenging part of AAU is the pace of the game,” Bickett said. “Going from Class B to AAU is a lot different and can be tough.
“Through the first few tournaments I’ve learned that it’s a lot harder to score in AAU than it is in High School. I’ve also learned to make open shots when you get them and to take care of the ball.”
Garrett wants to play college basketball and has a school right now that he is quite interested in.
“I do plan to play college basketball and I’m looking at University of Jamestown right now and some other options would be Sioux Falls, Valley City State, or Mayville.”
College is a ways away while the senior year is right around the corner.
“My main goal is to make it to the state tournament,” Bickett said. “My other goals would be to make the Lions Game and be on the All-State team.”
