Recruiting Report: Deonte Levingston (2018)
Simsboro 6-foot-2 wing Deonte Levingston is ready to prove that he’s one of 2018’s best prospects, and he’s going to use this summer to do that.
As of now, the slasher wing has yet to receive any serious interest for college programs, but just initial interest instead.
“I get letters and camp invites every day from different schools. I get a lot of letters from Northwestern State and I talked to the LSU-A coach and they’ve come to a lot of my games,” said Levingston.
“Another school I’m interested in is Louisiana Tech.”
He describes slashing to the rim as his strength, and says getting his teammates is a priority as well.
“I feel like I’m a guard that attacks the rim pretty good, and I’ll hit the open 3 if I get it,” said Levingston. “But I’m mostly looking to get to the rim and make plays for my teammates if I have to.”
Louisiana’s 71st-ranked 2018, Levingston was sensational as a junior with the Tigers as a junior, going for 21.5 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
“I had to step into a new role and become a leader on the team, and more of a scoring role, and be more vocal,” said Levingston.
Now, he’s spending his 17U summer with Louisiana Roundballers. He says his spring went OK, but he’s hoping to shoot better this summer.
“I didn’t shoot the ball very well, but I feel like I contributed with my defense and my passing, and just keeping my teammates involved,” he said. “We’re going to the Great American Shootout in Dallas next month, so I’ve been in the gym everyday to work on my jumper.”
The ultimate goal for Levingston now: to make it to college for free, with a basketball scholarship in tow.
“I just want to show everyone that I’m a slept-on prospect in the state, and that I’m one of the better ones in the state. And I just hope to pick up a couple of offers,” he said.
“I mostly just want to further my education for free, that’s the main thing. And I just want to continue playing the game at the next level.”
