Recruiting Report: Cole Hicks (2019)
When you think of a combo guard, you think of a player who can shoot, handle the ball and create opportunities for his teammates. Cole Hicks embodies that style of play. Standing 5 foot 11, his speed and ball handling ability enables him to get to the basket with ease.
Going into his junior year next season at Timberline High School in Lacey, WA. Cole is looking to break out and capture the eyes of many D2-D3 schools who are need of his many skill sets. This spring and summer, he will be playing for NDO HORNETS out of Lacey, WA.
“This past season I was very sick and had to forego my 2016 spring and summer AAU. My goal is to get back on track and show that I am back to my old self and can compete at an elite level. My focus during the off-season has been shooting, speed and agility.
On July 14-16, Cole will be competing in the NW PREMIER SHOWCASE in Bellevue, WA along with other high profile AAU organizations up and down the I5 corridor. He plans on picking up where he left off from his freshman year campaign where he put together some very impressive guard play during the 2015 AAU season. Posting over 10 points a game on an already stacked roster full of young talent out of Thurston County.
“My off the ball defense has really improved. I have done a better job anticipating where the pass is going to go and be there for the steal. My overall shooting has also gotten better. Mid-range and long-range percentages are where they need to be.”
Cole has expressed that, “a good Division 2 college would be a great fit.” However, he is still pushing for some low to mid-level Division 1 exposure during this season. With hard nose work ethic and his passion to stay in the gym and perfect his craft. The only thing that could hold him back is exactly what he looks at in the mirror before a he steps on the floor. “HIMSELF.”
