Recruiting Report: Carter Uphus (2018)
College programs are constantly seeking length. Carter Uphus will be the answer to some team’s search in the 2018 recruiting class.
Carter is a 6-foot-7 forward with a big-time wingspan. The Benilde-St. Margaret’s senior-to-be (he blocked 67 shots for the Red Knights last winter) plays AAU for 43 Hoops 17U, a program that I got to see firsthand during NHR State.
“My AAU season is going just as planned,” Uphus said. “I wanted to be on a team that allows me to showcase my skills and be surrounded by players that can make me better and also score and play solid defense. My team is filled with characters and never gives up; we could be down 15-20 points at halftime, and as soon as you know it, we are chipping away at the score which shows a lot of heart. I also really like my coach (Shaye Fields). He is young and knows how to run a solid unit.”
Many Division 3 programs have looked into Uphus, and It’s my opinion that he has the kind of frame and mobility that might earn him some scholarship money down the road, whether that’s NAIA or D2.
“I have received college interest from Saint Thomas, Saint Johns, Saint Olaf, Hamline, University of Chicago, Gustavus, and Central College in Iowa among others,” Uphus said. “In college, I am looking for a coach who works well with players and who know how to teach and relate to players. I am also looking for good academics for my future.”
