Recruiting Report 2020: Paul Smith

Paul Smith, 6'8", F, 2020. DeMatha HS, Hyattsville, MD.
Grassroots Team: Team Takeover 15 & U.
Paul played on DeMatha's varsity as a true freshmen which speaks volumes. This season he will be in DeMatha's rotation and will be a key front-line player for the Stags. We have seen Paul play several times this summer in the DeMatha BSN Summer League and he shows great flashes & potential. Paul understands his role this upcoming season and says,"I am a defensive first player and rebounder. I want to bring high energy and intensity for DeMatha. Defensively, I play very hard and so I can control who I am guarding & other opponents." Offensively Paul scores primarily in the mid range and paint. He has the skills, fundamentals and instincts for collecting rebounds on the offensive glass and can follow up with a hard dunk. Paul adds, "If I have the ball on offense I scan my options first. We have many excellent scorers on DeMatha and my 1st options are to find the open man & scorers. My offensive strengths are the mid range game and one dribble pull ups." This spring and summer Paul is working very hard 6 days a week (Sunday off) to improve his game. He works out with DeMatha Assistant Coach Kevin Cromer on basketball drills and DeMatha Strength and Conditioning Coach Tobe Stevens. Additionally, on Saturdays Paul has sessions with Trainer John Winfield who focus's on lower body strengthening and core exercises. On the Grassroots Circuit Paul is playing for Team Take Over 15 & U who are 9-1 on the Nike EBYL Circuit and ranked #3 in the nation. He is averaging 13 points and 8 rebounds per game for TTO and playing at a very high level. In the the classroom Paul is an excellent student with a 3.0 GPA and he is interested in studying Business Administration in college. On the basketball court many sources say Paul knows how to win and is a winner. This season Paul will gain major exposure and he is an excellent college prospect.
