Dunham’s 5-foot-10 guard Tyveon Spurlock is coming off the heels of a sophomore season in which he started with one of the best teams in Louisiana.
His role was mostly to play stout defense and distribute to his teammates. And he had the perfect skill-set to fulfill his role well.
“I think the main thing I do well is defend. I’m quick and have an explosive first step and things like that. My outside game needs a little improvement, but it’s getting a little better,” said Spurlock.
“I was a starter last season, and we had a lot of scorers who I would get the ball to. I would penetrate and kick and get them open looks.”
Now in the middle of his 16U offseason, Spurlock is playing with Louisiana Dynasty United, and working each day to improve his game.
“I’ve been working on my 3-point game, and getting more confident in that. And I’ve been playing different roles other than point guard, like the two or the three,” said Spurlock.
“This summer I’m going to work on 3-point shooting more and ball-handling, because as a guard that’s where I need to be different.”
In terms of recruitment, it’s started up a little bit, even if it’s just in the form of initial recruitment letters.
“I’ve gotten a couple letters from Northwestern State down here in Louisiana, and that’s it for now,” said Spurlock, who outlined some of his recruitment goals.
“I would like to at least get a ranking and get some exposure out there. Right now, I feel like I’m on pace to go at least D2, and I want to go low D1, that’s my goal.”
