Prospect Spotlight: Peyton Brammer (2020)
Hockinson High School 6’4 wing Peyton Brammer has good size and mobility. Excellent area rebounder that snatches boards with his strong hands. Versatile offensive threat. Peyton has expanded his game to where he is now a legit threat in the pick and pop game shooting it. Good screener that can both pop and roll to the hoop. Good hands catching passes in traffic and finishes with a soft touch around the rim. Seals in the high/low game. Solid passer out of the post. High IQ type of player and with the expansion of his long range shooting can really spread the floor and make room for others to attack. High level D1/D2 wing/forward prospect that has his stock on the rise heading into July.
What stood out to me while watching a summer league game vs. Mark Morrison was that he had the ability to take over a game on both ends of the floor. Most players can give you the offensive take over but not very many can influence the game on both ends at the guard position. Mark Morrison quickly went into a zone press to try to slow down Hockinson. Even though they do not have the foot speed, they had the height to pass right over the top. Peyton’s game is unique; size does not always mean you are going to dominate. There are plenty of tall players who don’t play physical in the paint. Peyton does not shy away from the contact or the big moments.
Peyton talked about his game and the ways he is able to be successful on the court.
“My game is inside out. I play all guard most of the time but for my size a short quick person usually guards me and I can take him into the post. My main skill is getting to the rim. I like playing fast and attacking the defense when there not expecting it. I am a spot up shooter as well and if I cannot get to the rim, I usually shoot my shot from deep. What would stand out to a coach is that I can play really fast and in control and I have a great feel for the game and understand at an early age when to facilitate and look for my own shot.”
Peyton also talked about some of the improvements he wants to make on the court to help elevate him to another level of recruiting.
“I want to work on my mid-range shooting this off season and I would like to improve my ball handling. I know at the next level I will need to facilitate along with handling the ball more and getting the team into our sets. With my height and length I know that my pull up will be my go to move because I am able to rise above most guards at my position.”
Peyton also updated us on who he is playing for this summer and what his recruitment is looking like so far.
“I play for Iron Athletic Sixers and we are sponsored by UA. The season has been going great. We have made it to every championship game in all of our tournaments so far, which has put us on the main stage in front of many coaches. My recruitment has been small schools that are interested. I feel that as the years go on I will start to attract some bigger name schools. My goal is to find the right fit for me athletically and educational wise. I know there are a lot of big name programs; however the right fit for me might be a smaller program depending on what they offer.”
Peyton is projected to be a low-major D1 prospect, however some really good D2 programs shouldn’t count themselves out because this young man sounds mature enough to make the right decision regardless of what level that is.
