Prospect Spotlight: Micah Banks (2019)
Denham Springs 6-foot combo guard Micah Banks is an up-and-coming 2019 in Louisiana, and could be due for a breakout junior season next winter with the Yellowjackets.
Able to excel at both guard spots, Banks says he’s equally adept at shooting and getting his teammates involved.
“My playmaking ability is my best strength, I can set people up to get open shots. I can shoot alright too, but I set my teammates up first,” said Banks.
“I need to work on my defense and being more aggressive. In the summer league, I’ve been scoring more than I did as my sophomore, and I’ve been playing better defense too.”
As a sophomore with Denham Springs, Banks started and had a nice season averaging 8 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds per game.
“I started most of the games on varsity last year, and I played pretty good. I was mainly really a shooter and I set people up,” said Banks. “Really just whatever they needed me to do, I would do it.”
There have been a couple area grassroots programs reach out to Banks about playing with them during July, but he currently has no team he plays with consistently.
Instead, the talented rising junior works out on his own, and plays summer league with his high school team. He also works with a strength and conditioning trainer three to four times a week.
“I’m just looking to get better and work on my skills during summer league,” said Banks. “I get up early and go to the gym sometimes, and work on conditioning and ball-handling, and I have a VertiMax machine in my backyard.”
Still with plenty of time left for his recruitment to materialize, Banks is already seeing some slight interest come in from all types of programs in the area.
“I was invited to a Lamar camp, and I’ve had a community college that has been showing interest in me, McLennan in Waco, Texas,” said Banks.
“I have a few more college elite camps on the schedule for the summer also, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Southeastern, and Alcorn State. And I have an invite for the Future 150 in August.”
Banks added: “I’m really thinking about it (recruitment), and I hope I get recruited by a good school where I can go and play college ball.”
