Prospect Spotlight: Jordan Matthews (2018)
St. Rita 2018 6’0” combo guard Jordan Matthews is a crafty combo guard that is coming off a strong junior campaign with his high school team and has shown flashes of his ability with Team Rose on the circuit. He isn’t overly explosive like his older brothers (Charles and Dominique), but he is shifty with the ball and the angular guard has a knack for getting in the lane. Good passer that makes sound decisions with the ball in the half court. Streaky shooter from the perimeter. Crafty defender that will get a few steals and take them the other way. Matthews is a small college prospect.
Matthews chatted with PHI about his season at St. Rita.
“It was great. We came up a little short on our goal against Morgan Park, but overall we had a great year. We struggled a little and then found ourselves.”
This year it was his team for the first time!
“Most definitely from my freshman year which was a learning experience. Sophomore year was a little more my year. Then junior year there was a lot on my shoulders. I feel like I handled it well.”
What are did he see the most growth from sophomore to junior year?
“Confidence. My coach had a lot of confidence in me that I didn’t see. Confidence was my biggest stride.”
When his game is really rolling what can he bring to a team?
“My biggest strength is penetrating and kicking it to the open man. Attacking and the mid-range game.”
Matthews runs with Team Rose on the Adidas circuit.
“It is going good. I love this team. There is not one selfish player on the team. Great coaching staff and they are hard on us which is what we want.”
Nothing with recruiting at this stage. Look for D3 and NAIA schools to make him a priority during the high school season.
