Prospect Spotlight: Jeremy Spencer (2018)
Jeremy Spencer (2018) 6’0
Jeremy is a tough guard that embraces physicality. His biggest strength is taking the ball to the basket whether it is in transition or taking his man off the dribble in the half court. Jeremy can also take control of a team in the half court and initiate sets. North Thurston is a team that tends to use very little clock when they are not in transition, so Jeremy has the responsibility of ensuring execution. The 6’0 guard does a good job getting after it defensively with active hands.
I spoke with him about his experience this season as summer league gets underway?
“It’s been going very well. We played in the Pierce tournament and won that tournament going 4-0. We just started competing in the Tumwater League and so far we are playing good and working together as a team. We are 2-0 right now”
What areas of his game really stand out?
“I can shoot the ball at a high clip. My long arms and athleticism enable to me rebound at a high level and get to the basket on a dribble drive. My goal is to continue to grow in those areas and become a better distributor”
Jeremy spoke about his senior year and his goals for himself and the team.
“This year is my last year and I want to show that I can play at the next level. Even though I’m not currently playing. AAU ball. I can still make a name for myself during the season, especially when we play schools like, Foss, Lincoln and Wilson. Those schools bring a lot of attention and recruitment. So that’ll be my chance to shine. My team goal is for us to lock in defensively and be a team that creates offense off our defense. so fast-breaks and transitions baskets are huge this year. Were not a tall team so we’ll have to be scrappy. After going 14-11 last year we definitely want to build on that record.
Jeremy has had some college interest mainly JUCO programs. This young man is definitely a D3-NAIA recruit and schools should be on the look out for him this season.
