Prospect Spotlight: Dontia Johnson (2018)
Romeoville 2018 forward Dontia Johnson has great size at 6’7″ with a college frame and athleticism to match. Biggest thing with Johnson is being locked in every game and playing with a motor. When he does do that he is a very effective player. Has the ability to run the floor, snatch boards, and hit jumpers from mid-range. He has low-major potential, but D2’s should also monitor him heavily.
Johnson spoke about his spring since joining Hoops4Health.
“So far it has been going good. I am out here trying to play hard and get more exposure. This is my last AAU season. I am playing decent. I can definitely get better.”
This past season was one of the best years in school history for Romeoville.
“It was good. For Romeoville we won 19 games which is unheard of for Romeoville. We fell short in our last game. We want to get back to the regional championship and show everyone we can win.”
They have a strong core returning with Johnson, DeAndre Heckard, and Michael Salter leading the way.
“Pretty much everyone is coming back except for Robert Johnson and another guy. Other than that everyone is coming back so we should be strong.”
Johnson spoke about his ability to create mismatches.
“When bigs try to guard me it is a mismatch because I can handle the ball so they have a hard time staying in front of me. I am long too.”
