Prospect Spotlight: Dawson Landers (2019)
Class of 2019 point guard Dawson Landers of Capital high school is usually the smallest player on the court, but has the biggest heart.
The 5’10 guard plays with a big chip on his shoulder, which enables him to come up with big performances in big games. He is a tough-minded young man who loves when the game is on the line.
“It all comes from having older brothers and a dad who all played the game for so many years. That’s where my competitive spirit comes from. I know for us to be successful. I need to play with a high motor.”
As a sophmore, Dawson led the Cougars in scoring, assist and steals. He is a talented point guard who can facilitate and get buckets when he needs to.
Dawson was one of the top players in the 3A south sound league earning him a second-team all conference selection. He averaged 15.7 points a game along with 5 assists a game.
“It was a great feeling to lead my team. We have so many guys who bring many skill sets to our team and I was very happy with how we were able to put it all together.”Dawson said. “During the middle of the season, is where we put together a really good run and I think that’s when we played our best basketball.”
Dawson has received some interest from JUCO level skills as a sophomore. I do feel that by the time he becomes a senior who should start to receive some letters from D3-NAIA LEVEL programs.
“As soon as that last game ended, I got in the gym,” he said. “This year I plan on picking up my play seven more and I want to be more of a facilitator and show that I can play the point guard position at the next level.”
