Prospect Spotlight: Carrington McCaskill (2019)
A 6-foot-6 wing from Detroit Renaissance, Carrington McCaskill is emerging as one of 2019’s most intriguing prospects.
A high-riser, who makes a big difference defensively, McCaskill defined his strengths in a recent interview with PHMI.
“I’m best at jumping and dunking, and getting rebounds and blocking shots. I also have a good 3-point and mid-range shot. I like to hustle for the ball, and things like that,” said McCaskill.
“Honestly, I think I just need to get stronger and work on dribbling and taking more mid-range jumpers instead of trying to go to the rim all the time. And also guarding guards that are smaller than me.”
This past season with Phoenix, the rangy wing says things did not go exactly as planned. But in general, he says his sophomore season was OK.
“My season didn’t go as well as I thought it would, said McCaskill. “But this season I did some tangible things to help us get the record that we had, and in my opinion it was a decent season.”
He’s honing his skill-set this spring and summer while playing with REACH Legends 16U, one of Michigan’s best grassroots squads.
“Our spring has been really great, we only lost three games in the NY2LA session, but we are undefeated in regular tournaments,” said McCaskill.
“My main goal for this summer is to gain 20 pounds to put me at 200 pounds, and to get into the gym everyday to get stronger and to work on my moves with the ball.”
In terms of his recruitment, the goal is to find a school with the right academics. But the junior-to-be has a little while before he needs to worry about that.
“Recruiting-wise I hope that get the opportunity to get an offer or be recruited from a school that I would like to go to,” said McCaskill. “One with a good engineering program, so I can get into my major, and know that I will be getting everything I need to succeed academically and with sports.”
