Prospect Spotlight: AJ Dickerson (2019)
A fan of Golden State forward Kevin Durant, Junction City 2019 guard AJ Dickerson says he tries to base his game off of his role model and favorite player.
Dickerson is a strong, athletic guard who is an aggressive player with the dribble. At 6’2, he can get to the bucket or stop and shoot over defenders.
“I can also knock down the open three and get my teammates hot off the energy I bring to the floor,” he says. “I try to knock down the 3-pointer when open, while trying to drive to the paint every so often. I have a mindset that I can’t be stopped, but I also respect the game at the same time.”
A year ago, Dickerson and Junction City struggled through a tough season, but expectations are high for the program after a solid June. The team features several talented players and a host of weapons needed to compete at a high level.
“High-school has been fantastic, it’s been an break out year for me and I’m thankful for my teammates supporting me through the way,” Dickerson said.
This past spring, Dickerson competed with SSA Elite, competing for a talented squad that made several deep runs in various tournaments.
“AAU has been a grind, it’s been tough trying to get to the top after making it to the Final 4 in tourneys,” Dickerson said. “Team-wise we always stuck together and it always helps my (basketball) IQ.”
Dickerson currently does not hold any offers and hasn’t garnered much interest yet from college programs, but hopes that will change in the near future.
“At the moment I’m just going off raw talent and hard work and hoping it pays off here soon,” he said.
