PREVIEW: KA-MO Shootout (Pool A)
The KA-MO Hoops Shootout will be held on June 9-11 in four separate locations with 33 varsity teams participating.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and will run through a bracket tournament on Sunday.
Today, PrepHoops.com/Kansas takes a look at the teams and players competing in Pool A with games played at Shawnee Mission East
Pool A
Shawnee Mission East, Topeka West, Olathe North, Bolivar, Lincoln North Star, St. Thomas Aquinas
Players to Watch in Pool A
Koriyon Carr, 5’10, G, 2018, Topeka West
Kid can really play. He’s a combo guard who can put the ball in the bucket with the best of the them and scores at all three levels. He’s a creative ball handler and is a terrific finisher in the lane. He put up big numbers for the Chargers this past season, averaging 19 points per game and knocking down 50 3-pointers in 21 games.
Kenny Gavin, 6’3, F/G, 2018, St. Thomas Aquinas
Gavin and fellow senior Drew Nusbaum are key returners from a squad that put together a big season a year ago but lost numerous talented seniors. Gavin is a terrific inside-outside wing player with good athleticism and will likely be counted on to emerge as a leader this season.
Elijah Griffin, 6’1, G, 2018, Topeka West
Teams with Koriyon Carr (see above) to form a tough 1-2 punch for West. Griffin averaged 12.2 points and 3.3 assists per game last season and made 32 3-pointers.
Ian Jones, 5’10, PG, 2019, Bolivar
Much like St. Thomas Aquinas and several other teams in this pool, Bolivar is in rebuild mode, but the player the Liberators might lean on the most for production is 2019 guard Ian Jones, a 5’10 point guard with good handles and a smooth outside shooting stroke.
Joe Rost, 6’5, F, 2019, St. Thomas Aquinas
Roost is a long, rangy wing player that has a smooth outside shooting stroke who knocked down numerous big shots last season for one of the state’s premier teams. Aquinas is turning over its roster after suffering heavy losses to graduation, but is plugging in players from a JV that went 22-0 last year.
Jack Schoemann, 6’7, F, 2018, Shawnee Mission East
Might be the top all-around player in Pool A, an athletic 6’7 wing player that currently holds offers from NCAA Division I programs UTEP and Colorado State. A left hander, Schoemann has good size, a solid outside shooting stroke and is a good all-around player.
