Intro: Reggie Strong (2020)
Class of 2020 Reggie Strong is a 6’1” point guard out of Farragut that had a solid freshman campaign where he made a name for himself and has continued that into the spring with a strong showing for Young & Reckless 15U. Broad shoulders, with long arms, and a projectable frame to where the young prospect should continue to grow several more inches before he leaves high school. The lead guard is explosive and crisp with the ball in his hands. Plus ball handler that has the ability to get where he needs to on the floor to get the job done. Crosses his man over and can either get to the bucket or pull up for a slick mid-range jumper. Fluid form and clean mechanics on jumper. Projects to be able to shoot it well from three long term. Speed in the open floor and active on ball defender. More of a scoring point guard at this stage, but does flash passing ability. Could be one of the better 2020 lead guards in Illinois.
Strong discussed his spring and how it has gone for him on the 15U circuit.
“It has been going good. We have a good group of kids. When I joined I didn’t know anything about Y&R, but then I realized this is the program I have been seeing for the longest. I love Stan and our coaches. I think I am playing good and coming into my own. I am getting used to the players and that makes it easier for me.”
What is his role on the team?
“Floor general and getting others involved. Score when I need too and assist. Play defense.”
The guard spoke about his freshman season and making a name for himself.
“It was good. I started on varsity at Farragut. We were in the Red-West. We should have done better, but we did win regionals. A lot of people notice me everywhere I go. I get a lot of recognition going to different gyms. We now have people wanting to come there because they hear things are going well at Farragut.”
When his game is rolling what does he do best?
“Being aggressive and attacking the hole. Playing defense. I am a good rebounder and scorer.”
Three colleges have shown early attention.
“I have heard from SIU, UNLV, and DePaul.”
He took a visit to DePaul.
“It was a good school. I knew it was a D1 school, but I didn’t know it was high-major. It is local and right down the street from me.”
