Intro: Nate Ferguson (2019)
Lemont 6’7” 2019 power forward Nate Ferguson emerged on our radar in a major way this spring playing for Chicago Lockdown 16U. Strong frame and good length. He is a stretch four man that can knock down pick and pop shots with ease. Fades away from drivers for feathery jumpers. Dominant on the glass. Ferguson is a beast on the defensive glass. Also very effective on the offensive glass not only high pointing balls for himself, but when he can’t grab it he taps it out to his guards. Does this numerous times a game. D2 prospect with low-major upside.
Ferguson chatted with PHI about his junior campaign.
“This year was pretty good. We had PJ (Pipes) on our team who is a great player. He helped Paul O’Leary and me get the ball and score. It was a pretty successful year. I think I played pretty good at the beginning of the year. I started off a little slow because it was an adjustment, but toward the end of the season against like Bolingbrook I started to play very well.”
Playing with another legit sized post in Paul O’Leary gave teams fits.
“It was fun. We are both big guys. Get Paul and me the ball it was a pretty good combo.”
What are the strengths of his game?
“I am big and pretty versatile. I can dribble and shoot outside. I am pretty athletic so I can score inside.”
Rebounding on both ends of the floor is another area he excels at.
“What I like to do on the boards is go up as high as I can and get the ball to my teammates if that is either grabbing the ball or tipping it out to them.”
How has the spring gone with Chicago Lockdown?
“It is pretty fun. A lot of good players and a good experience. I think I have played well. Started off a little slow, but have got in the groove.”
