Intro: Marcus Watson (2020)
Marcus Watson is a 5’10” 2020 point guard from Morgan Park. He played the majority of the season at the sophomore level for the Mustangs, but as the season went on he saw quite an important role in their run to a 3A state championship. Watson loves to be in attack mode. He is quick and shifty with the ball in his hands. Gets in the lane where he converts acrobatic finishes at the rim. Solid passer and has a knack for getting to the line. Streaky shooter that can get hot on occasion from three. Pesky defender against opposing lead guards.
His freshman year was quite a journey for the 2020 guard.
“It went good. I played freshman/sophomores, and varsity. For frosh/sophs we made it to the final four and lost to Curie. They moved me up to varsity and we won state.”
Playing in Peoria he didn’t expect to get much run, but quickly he had to become a major factor for the Mustangs.
“It was good. I didn’t really think I was going to play with Ayo (Dosunmu) getting all the minutes, but when he got hurt Nick (Irvin) put me in the game.”
The confidence that Coach Irvin gave Watson by putting him in that position was huge.
“He made me feel like I was the best freshman in the class of 2020. Me and Nimari (Burnett). I knew we were going to win we just had to keep fighting.”
What are his favorite things to do on the court?
“Going to the basket, playmaking, and defense.”
Watson plays with the Mac Irvin Fire 15U.
