Class of 2020 Wing Breakdown
The wing group in the 2020 class is definitely top heavy right now. Three potential stars and then there is a gap between them and the rest of the class. We look at the group as a whole here.
The top two guard in the state is Lance Mosley out of DePaul Prep. Athletic scoring guard that can get to the rim and is a solid jump shooter. Josh Holmes out of Jones is another athletic scorer that has a feathery jumper. Other names to track include Destin Whitaker (Romeoville), Keshawn Williams (Bloom), Dante Maddox (Bloom), and Amir Span (Mt. Vernon). None are high-major propsects, but should be monitored by D1 schools.
The best wing in this class overall is Lamontay Daughtery from Duquoin. The southern Illinois 6’6” wing has a projectable frame, big time athleticism, and upside as a skilled wing. Isaiah Rivera (Geneseo) has a chance to be the next big time wing to come out of the Quad City Elite program. Rivera is a versatile prospect that is almost a point-forward. Excellent passer that can also get to the rim to score. Those two are the clear headliners at the position and should be on the high-major radar early.
Like the two guard position there is a drop off after that. Bryce Hall is a wing from Simeon that has caused some buzz up in Chicago as a grammar school player and could emerge this season. A pair of wings that have familiar last names follow in Justin Taphorn (Pekin) who is the brother of Northwestern’s Nate Taphorn and Isaiah Burrell (Morgan Park) who is the next Burrell to play for the Mustangs.
