Class of 2020 Outlook
It is always an exciting time to jump into a new class. We enjoy watching young prospects for the first time. Finding new players that will be the future of high school hoops in the state of Illinois and down the line the recruiting landscape in our state. Let’s look at the strengths and weaknesses early on!
Strengths
Top Tier Point Guards
Most classes the strength starts out at point guard as bigs usually rise in the middle and end of their high school careers. This class has major staying power at the point guard spot with a pair of lead guards at the top that will probably battle it out for the next three years for the #1 ranking in DJ Steward (Fenwick) and Adam Miller (Peoria Manual). There are also three other floor generals in the top eight overall and 8 total in the top 17! That is quite a group.
Depth of Post Players
The post players might not have a no doubt superstar yet, but the depth toward the top is impressive. Shon Robinson (Morgan Park) leads the way along with emerging Kee Hargrow (Joliet Central) as the only two in the top 10. The 11-25 group is dominated with post players seeing 10 power forward or centers in that range. Some of these guys will rise and others will fall off in the next couple years, but a lot of size to work with early in the process.
Weaknesses
Depth of Wings
We talked about the positions of strength and by that you can probably guess what the weakness is. The shooting guard and small forward group doesn’t have a lot of depth right now. Two wings in the top 10 with a pair of Lamontay Daughtery (Duquoin) and Isaiah Rivera (Geneseo).
