Class of 2019 Wing Breakdown
The wing group in the 2019 class is solid and features three of the top five overall prospects. We breakdown the shooting guard and small forward positions here!
The shooting guard group is headlined by the #4 overall player in the class Perry Cowan out of DePaul Prep. He is an uber smooth shooting guard that can score at all three levels. Cowan is a high-major recruit and one of the more coveted prospects in the 2019 class in Illinois. He is the clear top dog at the position right now.
Behind Cowan is Whitney Young’s Myles Baker. The wing saw limited minutes as a sophomore for the state champs, but has the ability to score and plays at a high level against competition his own age. Anthony Fairlee (Springfield Southeast) and LJ Johnson follow him up and might be two of the premier athletes in the class regardless of position. Freak athletes that are refining their skill sets. Other potential D1 prospects to watch include Christopher Burnell (Rockford East), Dajuan Gordon (Curie), and Michael Salter (Romeoville). Early potential D2 candidates include Jamir Price (Rock Island), Malcolm Miller (Shelbyville), and Lance Jones (Evanston).
Nice 1-2 punch at the top of the small forward rankings with Terrence Hargrove (East St. Louis) and Bryant Brown (Waukegan) leading the way. Hargrove was a beast this past year as a sophomore. The 6’6” wing is uber bouncy and an elite offensive rebounder. Finishes above the rim and perimeter skill is starting to emerge. Brown is a rangy and athletic combo forward that continues to develop his perimeter game. Three point stroke started to show through more early in the spring. Defensive presence. Both have high-major ability.
Martin Macenis (Stagg) and Deng Reng (Wheaton North) are two wings that both impressed with ET21 Buckeyes. Skilled wings with size. Macenis was particularly spectacular this spring showing off his versatile scoring game. Another offensive weapon that brings a lot of different assets to the table is Jeremiah Hernandez (St. Viator). Three other potential low-major targets to track are Keeshawn Chambers (Solorio), Johnny Roeser (Carmel), and CJ Benton (De La Salle). High level D2 prospects with the chance to elevate include Landon Wolfe (Effingham), Mohammed Alausa (Chicago U-High), and Isaac Stanback (Hillcrest).
