Class of 2018 Small College PGs
In this edition of our look at the 2018 point guards in the state of Illinois we give you a list of potential D3 and NAIA targets that could make an impact at those levels.
Kevin Caldwell (Alton)
Overall Rank: #77
Travel Team: Jets-Ramey United NY2LA
Caldwell is coming off a strong junior campaign at Alton. The compact and explosive point guard has great speed pushing it in the open floor and has improved his perimeter jump shot.
JJ Flores (Harvest Christian)
Overall Rank:#83
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Flores is an athletic and rangy point guard that is mostly a scorer at this stage. Loves to attack off the bounce and get to the rim. Streaky jump shooter.
Morgan Taylor (Marist)
Overall Rank: #84
Travel Team: Illinois Fastbreak
Taylor had a good junior year and has been productive for Illinois Fastbreak this spring. He is a prospect that gets everything out of his ability.
Jack Marinko (Edwardsville)
Overall Rank: #103
Travel Team: Gateway Illinois
Marinko opened our eyes last season with his lights out shooting from the perimeter. Best as a spot up shooter, but can also play on the ball.
Brandon Simberg (Libertyville)
Overall Rank: #104
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
Simberg is a tough and competitive prospect that plays with a lot of grit. Didn’t get a ton of run on the EYBL Fire squad, but he will help out a small college program with his shooting and vision in the half court.
Zach Robinson (St. Charles East)
Overall Rank: #118
Travel Team: Tri City Thunder
Strongly build point guard that plays within himself. Robinson can really shoot it off the catch and makes sound decisions with the rock in his hands.
Carter Higginbottom (St. Ignatius)
Overall Rank: #137
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Higginbottom is a crafty point guard that is best setting others up. Not much of a perimeter shooter, but he can make solid passes especially in the half court.
Zach Ludwig (St. Charles North)
Overall Rank: #138
Travel Team: Tri City Thunder
Ludwig is a calming force at the point guard position as he doesn’t get rushed. Crisp passes and is a solid shooter off the catch.
Sammy Green (Marquette Catholic)
Overall Rank: #139
Travel Team: Gateway Illinois
Green is a solid ball handler that is slippery with the rock in his hands. Can dish it with some flare. Where he excels is shooting the ball. He is money off the catch once he gets in a flow.
Brian Conaghan (New Trier)
Overall Rank: #142
Travel Team: Hoops4Health
This New Trier point guard stands at 6’2” and is a tough kid. He can really shoot the ball from the perimeter. Plus shooter with a quick release from three. Best off the catch. Not afraid to mix it up and dive after loose balls.
