Around the State : Darlington and Lee Counties (2018)
Prep Hoops takes a look around the Palmetto State at Darlington and Lee Counties. These counties are in the Pee Dee Region of the State off I-95 and I-20. Lee Central HS located in Bishopville was a powerhouse back in the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 with back to back State Championships with Mike Holmes.
Amadric Mixon – Lee Central HS (Bishopville)
Mixon 6’2 shooting guard is a one trick pony. Mixon has deep range shooting ability strictly a catch-shoot guy. Mixon has been witnessed by Prep Hoops several times to shoot the ball from 22-25 feet. Mixon doesn’t play on the AAU circuit with any team and goes by the nickname “Cheese”.
Daequan Thomas – Lee Central HS (Bishopville)
Thomas a pass first point guard is the leader of the Stallions offense. Thomas 5’10 plays at a steady pace at all times and has the ability to hit open shots. Thomas a soft spoken kid can really direct a offense well. Thomas plays AAU with Florence International Basketball.
Terence Mack – Hartsville HS
Mack 5’10 left-handed guard really excels in the open floor. Mack shows to have a nice pull-up in transition. Mack generally plays on the ball for the Red Foxes. Mack runs AAU with Rhodes on the Carolina Wolves.
Darius Rhodes – Hartsville HS
Rhodes and Mack have both seen action since there freshman season with the Red Wolves. Rhodes 5’11 has the ability to get into the paint and create offense. Rhodes likes to use the floater in the lane. Rhodes really plays the passing lanes well.
Kyron Gray – Hartsville HS
Gray 6’8 came on this past season for the Red Foxes. Gray a post player is a quick leaper off the floor and really can alter shots on the defensive end. Gray averaged 10.1 ppg and 9.9 rebounds this season. Gray plays AAU with Team South Carolina.
Kris’Shawn Hickman – Darlington HS
Hickman 6’4 a virtual unknown this past season came to Darlington HS from Airport HS in Columbia. Hickman has made several stops over the years in the Palmetto State. Hickman has a big-time motor on the floor and is still bit of a raw talent. Hickman has attended Manning HS and CA Johnson along with others in the state over the years. Hickman averaged 9.6 ppg and 4 rebounds this season.
Jalian Smith – Darlington HS
Smith 6’5 slender and athletic post player averaged 6.2 ppg and 5.4 rebounds this season for the Falcons. Smith has seen glimpses of being a player over the years but those numbers need to improve this season. Smith came on the scene a few years back during the Frankie Johnson era. Smith is a great rim runner on the floor. Smith plays AAU with the Carolina Stampede.
La’sauhn McFadden – Trinity-Byrnes (Darlington)
McFadden 6’2 has the ability to create his own shot. McFadden is the leader of the Titans offense and Head Coach Larry Cullinane. McFadden averaged 15.4 ppg and 6 assists this season. The Titans look to have a solid core group of seniors this season all have been mainstays at the school. McFadden played AAU this past season with Florence International Basketball.
CJ Miles – Trinity-Byrnes (Darlington) (pictured on front)
Miles 6’3 a slender-sleek left-handed guard has come into his own over the years. Miles has the ability to hit shots from all 3 levels. Miles averaged 11.2 ppg, 5.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals last season.
Mateo Thompson – Trinity-Byrnes (Darlington)
Thompson 6’4 a multi-sport athlete plays WR/DB on the football field. Thompson a bouncy athlete averaged 5.4 ppg this past season for the 22-10 Titans. Thompson moves very well away from the ball and stays active on the floor.
