Around the State : Charleston County Private Schools Underclassmen
The talent is deep in the 2019 and 2020 classes in Chucktown for basketball. Prep Hoops takes a look at some players to follow in Charleston County from the private school ranks in the years to come.
Josiah James (2019) Porter Gaud
James is one of the best players in the 2019 class in the Palmetto State. James ranked #2 behind Christian Brown is just so smooth on the floor with his demeanor.James has received many offers this spring and they keep piling up. James father played college ball at Michigan State.
Chase Cannon (2020) Porter Gaud
Cannon 6’7 just transferred in from nearby Wando HS. Cannon will play behind Jake Lanford (2018) this season. Cannon left-handed post player isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint for his young age.Cannon can step out 10-12 feet and knock down shots
Mikey Dukes (2019) First Baptist (Charleston)
Dukes a strong point guard is the leader of the Hurricanes offense. Dukes a downhill guard can get ot the rack easily and likes to bully defenders at times.Dukes also a outstanding running back for the Hurricanes has recently picked up scholarships from South Carolina, Wake Forest and Georgia State on the gridiron.
Devin Dean (2019) First Baptist (Charleston)
Dean plays AAU with Upward Stars – Columbia. Dean plays off the ball for the Hurricanes with Dukes in the back court. Dean is a streaky shooter with a quick shot release.
Joe Powell (2019) First Baptist (Charleston)
Powell is a heady player with a great shooting stroke. Dukes, Dean and Powell form a great 3 headed monster for the Hurricanes. Powell runs AAU TMP 17U. His mother coach’s the girls team at First Baptist.
Maliek Brown (2020) Palmetto Christian Academy (Mount Pleasant) (pictured on front)
Brown is extremely athletic and plays so much bigger than his size. Brown 6’3 averaged 20 ppg and 11 rebounds last season at Palmetto Christian Academy. Brown really excels in transition and plays active on both sides of the floor. Brown plays AAU with Upward Stars Southeast 2020.
