Around the State : Charleston County Private Schools (2018)
Prep Hoops takes a look at the top seniors in Charleston County from the private schools.
Aaron Nesmith – Porter Gaud (pictured on the front)
Nesmith is ranked #3 in the 2018 South Carolina Class. Nesmith along with his Cyclones teammates have won back to back SCISA State Championships. The Cyclones don’t rebuild just reload with talent. Nesmith 6’5 shooting guard has received plenty of interest including American University, Brown, Bucknell, College of Charleston, East Carolina University, Mercer and Yale to just to name a few. Nesmith averaged 18.4 ppg this season.
Jake LanfordJake Lanford – Porter Gaud
Lanford has had a great spring playing with TMP 17U. Lanford 6’9 for sure will be moving up in the new Prep Hoops South Carolina Rankings that will be put out later this month. Lanford has received offers from Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Bucknell, Coastal Carolina, Columbia, College of Charleston, Furman, Mercer, North Florida, Rice and William & Mary to just name a few from this spring. Lanford averaged 11.5 ppg and 8.7 rebounds for the Cyclones this past season.
Harrison Whatley – Porter Gaud (pictured on front)
Whatley 6’8 likes to play face-up from the basket. Whatley plays in the shadows of Nesmith and Whatley in both high school and on TMP 17U. Whatley feels comfortable knocking down 17-19 footers as a stretch 4 man. Whatley is going to be a good catch for a college program.
Mark White – First Baptist HS (Charleston)
White is a left-handed post player here at First Baptist. White lacks true perimeter skills but is a freak athlete. White started off at Garrett Academy before joining the Hurricanes last season. White scores all his points within about 4-6 feet from the basket. White plays AAU with the Charleston Playmakers.
Christian Waring – Cathedral Academy (North Charleston)
Waring averaged 12.8 ppg last season for the Generals. Waring 5’11 point guard likes to hit floaters in the lane and can-step out to 3 point range. Waring is the leader of the Generals squad.
The senior class here doesn’t have many players but the underclassmen are very deep in Chucktown for the next few seasons.
