Around the State : Charleston County (2018) Part 1
Prep Hoops has decided to break this segment into 2 different parts. Charleston County has 14 public schools that Prep Hoops is taking a look at for the 2018 class.
Bryson Rose – Academic Magnet (North Charleston)
Rose is a unknown on the high school scene. Rose connected on over 120 three pointers last season. Rose 5’11 averaged 20 ppg and 7.8 rebounds last season. Rose has 1,034 career points entering his senior season.
Corey Fields – Baptist Hill HS (Hollywood)
Fields 5’10 will go down as a great 3 sport athlete at tiny Baptist Hill HS. Fields averaged 16.1 ppg, 9.1 rebounds, 3.8 steals and 2.3 assists this past season for the Bobcats. The Bobcats finished the season at (15-7). Fields was named Region Player of the Year for his honors. Fields has 872 points entering his senior season.
Fields is even better on the football field as a quarterback. Fields runs a pro style offense for the Bobcats. Fields completed (168-241) 2,946 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. Fields ran for 741 yards on 70 carries last season. Fields has passed for 4754 yards and 51 touchdowns in 19 career games. Fields runs AAU with the Premier Jammers.
Starke Salmons – James Island HS
Salmons played AAU this past spring with Big Shots Elite Orange with Jalen Cameron (2017) and Justin Busby (2017). Salmons a guard averaged 17 ppg and 6 assists for the Trojans this past season. Salmons feels comfortable playing off the ball.
Ty Buncum – Wando HS
Buncum 5’8 point guard plays at a even pace most of the time. Buncum sets the tone for the Warriors offense. Buncum averaged 12.5 ppg last season.
Shelton Brown – West Ashley HS (pictured on front)
Brown is one of the 3 seniors here that all should have big seasons for the Wildcats. Brown a wing player is very athletic and really likes to stalk the baseline. Brown 6’3 scores most of his points around the rim. Brown a small forward seems very tentative to shoot the ball on the perimeter.
Jackie Jackson – West Ashley HS
Jackson 6’0 point guard is a table setter for the Wildcats. Jackson can play off the ball some and has a nice stroke from 3 point range. Jackson and Brown run AAU with Pooh Frayer and the Premier Jammers.
Skylar Williams – West Ashley HS
Williams plays the off guard spot for the Wildcats. Williams 6’0 is more of catch-shoot player. Williams plays AAU with the Karolina Khaos 17U. Williams averaged 17.6 ppg last season for the Wildcats.
