Around the State: Border Belt Underclassmen
Prep Hoops makes a stop in the Border Belt of the Pee Dee. Here is the best underclassman in Chesterfield, Dillon, and Marlboro Counties. Here is a closer look at some of talent here.
Darius Boatwright Dillon HS (2019) (Picture on the Front)
Boatwright 6’6 forward averaged 9.6 ppg and grabbed 6.0 rebounds this season for the Wildcats. Boatwright is a quick leaper off the floor. Boatwright likes to play out on the perimeter and has the ability to shoot the 3 ball. The Wildcats lost in the 3A State Championship Game to Greenville Southside. Boatwright runs AAU with Big Shots South Carolina 16U.
Corrian Wright Dillon HS (2019)
Wright 5’8 shooting guard averaged 3.7 ppg this season. Wright will look to help in the back court next season for the Wildcats. Wright plays for Big Shots Elite 16U this spring.
Deonte Stanley Latta HS (2019
Stanley 6’2 forward averaged 9.6 ppg and 6 rebounds this season. Stanley plays football, basketball, and baseball for the Vikings. Stanley plays hard in the paint and will get the rebound. Stanley caught 36 passes for 498 yards and six touchdowns for the Vikings last year. Stanley has helped the baseball team last year to Class A runner-up and this year to Class 2A State runner-up.
Darius McRae Latta HS (2019)
McRae 5’9 point guard averaged 9.8 ppg this season for the Vikings. McRae looks to help Vikings be in contention for the Region title this year. McRae plays AAU with Big Shots South Carolina 16U.
Mhalik Sharpe Chesterfield HS (2019)
Sharpe 5’10 combo guard averaged 7.7 ppg last season for the Rams. Sharpe plays AAU with the PG Ballers.
Xavier McIver Cheraw HS (2020)
McIver 6’2 forward averaged 6.3 ppg last season for the Braves. McIver plays both football and basketball for the Braves. McIver uses his big body well to draw contact in the paint. McIver is a defensive end that had 39 tackles this year. McIver plays with Big Shots South Carolina 15U.
Jalen Coit Cheraw HS (2020)
Coit left-handed combo guard averaged 24.3 ppg for the Braves this past season. Coit led the Pee Dee region in scoring last year. Coit can score the ball from the three-point range or use the mid-range game. Coit had some big games this past season at Cheraw. Coit plays for Upward Stars Southeast 15U.
Marshall Myers Long M.S. (Cheraw)
Myers will attend Cheraw HS this coming fall. Myers was a student at Longs Middle School last year. Myers will be great back court mate to Jalen Coit (2020). Myers will be playing under new coach Justin Johnson.
Myers a 5’10 point guard will look to take the load off of Coit this year. Myers is a quick ball handler and plays hard on both sides of the floor. Myers always looks to distribute the ball to wide open man. Myers plays with Big Shots South Carolina 15U this spring.
