Around the State: Berkeley and Dorchester Counties (2018)
Prep Hoops travels across the Palmetto State to check out the best players in Dorchester and Berkeley Counties. The talent pool looks to have plenty of players to recruit from this coming 2018 season.
Berkeley Counties has had several players depart for higher education in 2017. Here are some Craig Sabb (Stratford), Ta’Seon Johnson (Timberland), RA Anderson (Timberland), Tyler Garvin (Pinewood Prep), Brandon Miller (Pinewood Prep) and Adonicas Sanders (Fort Dorchester).
Connor Reed Ashley Ridge HS (Summerville)
Reed 6’7 has improved his game since last season. Reed plays AAU with Palmetto Elite. Reed keeps the ball up high in the post. Reed can step-out to 15 feet and plays the game with a great attitude.
DeAngelo Knight Fort Dorchester HS (Ladson)
Knight 6’3 wing is a physical specimen and just bullies players in the paint. Knight is a two sport athlete and looks to be going the football route for next season. Knight informed Prep Hoops that he is receiving interest from Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Appalachian State, Old Dominion, West Virginia, Tennessee State, Florida State and North Carolina State on the gridiron. Knight plays for the Premier Jammers in AAU this spring.
Ellis Goodwin Fort Dorchester HS (Ladson)
Goodwin started his career at nearby Summerville HS. Goodwin a combo guard played AAU with the Carolina Wolves this spring.
Trent Bryant Fort Dorchester HS (Ladson)
Bryant 6’6 plays in the post for the Patriots. Bryant is quite efficient around the basket from 10-12 feet. Bryant has a good nose for the ball on both ends of the floor.
Shaquan Davis Summerville HS
Davis 6’5 plays both football and basketball for the Green Wave. Davis has great jumping ability and plays above the rim. Davis plays AAU with TMP. Davis averaged 18.1 ppg and 10.1 rebounds last season for the Green Wave. Davis came on a summer ago after some big-time dunks on the AAU circuit.
Jalen Slawson Pinewood Prep (Summerville) (pictured on the front)
Slawson 6’7 small forward for the Panthers. Slawson averaged 15.3 ppg for the Panthers last season. Slawson will look to be the man next year after the departure of three starters. Slawson also plays for TMP this spring in AAU.
Mikel Shuler Woodland HS (Dorchester)
Shuler 5’3 point guard plays like a pest on the floor. Shuler keeps the ball low to the floor and has the ability to penetrate the gaps. Shuler averaged 12.6 ppg this past season for the Wolverines.
Ephraim Butler Berkeley HS (Moncks Corner)
Butler has been a starter for the Stags for two years. Butler averaged 10.6 ppg this season. Butler a point guard has received interest from Coastal Carolina University, North Carolina A&T and Georgia Southern this spring. Butler started off with TMP but didn’t play with them in the during the NCAA Evaluation period.
BJ Fuller Cross HS
Fuller 6’3 small forward also plays football for the Trojans. Fuller averaged 10.4 ppg and 6.7 rebsounds this year. Fuller hopes to help the Trojans make the playoffs after missing them last year.
Chris Fordham Goose Creek HS
Fordham 6’2 guard saw very limited action this season after being injured. Fordham runs AAU with TMP. Fordham is ranked #23 in Prep Hoops South Carolina 2018 rankings.
Eric Burks Stratford HS (Goose Creek)
Burks Jr 6’6 really enjoys playing away from the basket as a face-up 4 man. Burks Jr can knockdown the 3 with a bit of slow shot release. Burks averaged 10.4 ppg and had 5.7 rebounds this past season. Burks plays for Karolina Khaos on the Adidas Circuit.
J.D. Gibbs Timberland HS (St.Stephen)
Gibbs is the point guard for the Wolves. Gibbs is hard working on both sides of the floor. Gibbs has a nice mid-range game.
