Around the State : Anderson County Underclassmen
Prep Hoops makes a stop in Anderson County which is located in the Northwest corner of the Palmetto State near the Georgia Border. Here is a closer look at some of the talented underclassmen in this area in the Upstate.
Brody Bruce Wren HS (Piedmont) (2019)
Bruce 6’2 left-handed shooting guard likes to spot up in the corners. Bruce averaged 7 ppg, 5 rebounds, and six assists last season. Bruce has played two years for the Hurricanes. Bruce plays for the South Carolina Raptors Elite during the spring.
Omacio Brownlee Anderson Christian (2019)
Brownlee 6’5 post player averaged 6.2 ppg and grabbed 4.3 rebound per game. Brownlee is very athletic rim protector. Brownlee helped the Lions to SCISA Class A state championship game before falling to Charleston Collegiate. Brownlee has a very slender frame and stays active inside the paint. Brownlee can hit the 12-14 foot jumper.
Dre Washington Anderson Christian (2019)
Washington 5’11 point guard helps control the offense with running mate Mason Brown. Washington averaged 5.0 ppg. Washington will look to help the Lions win the SCISA Class A state championship this year.
Traye Carson Westside HS (Anderson) 2019 (Photo on the Front)
Carson 5’9 point guard has good quicks and is a great ball handler. Carson shows to have a nice mid-range game. Carson averaged 15.4 ppg, 2.3 rebounds a game and 3.6 assist a game for the Rams. Carson helped lead the Rams to second place in the region. Carson was named to All-Region team last year. Carson will look to help the Rams win the region and advance in the playoffs next year.
Ty Danzy Westside HS (Anderson) 2019
Danzy 6’3 post player has great length and will play aggressive inside the paint. Danzy averaged 6.0 ppg and 4.5 rebounds this season for the Rams. Danzy is a tight end and outside linebacker for the Rams football team. Danzy plays with Mooresville Magic this spring.
Paul Johnson Westside HS (Anderson) 2019
Johnson 5’8 guard gets the ball to the basket.. Johnson rushed for over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.
Ja’Heim Handy T.L. Hanna HS (Anderson) 2019
Handy 5’11 point guard averaged 13.6 ppg last season. Handy runs the offense for the Yellow Jackets. Handy helped the Yellow Jackets win the region last year. Handy was named to the All-Region team.
Cadavious Gary Belton-Honea Path (Honea Path) 2019
Gary 6’2 will crash the boards and alter shots on the defensive end. Gary averaged 6.9 ppg. Gary plays with Upward Stars Upstate this spring.
Rutger Hoekstra 22Feet Academy (Takes classes @ Anderson Christian)
Hoekstra 6’6 small forward has been here with the 22Feet Academy for a few seasons now. Hoekstra originally from Holland is a perimeter player with a good stroke. Hoekstra older brother Max committed to American University this past season. Hoekstra plays AAU with the South Carolina Sonics.
